Are there any safety switches or mechanisms that allow the fuel pump relay to kick on? The relay has power to it, but it's not kicking any power through to the fuel pump. If I jump the connection on the relay plug the pump runs. Also, I have one wire(purple i think) down by the starter with the small terminal on it that has power anytime the key is on, so if I have it connected to the solenoid it kicks the starter on immediately cranking the motor in the start position. Should this be connected to the other small terminal lug on the solenoid? And, does this have anything to do with the fuel pump problem?

Type 43GS PLKD
Serial 4110142498

Thanks, Cory

Re: 1997 Larson Flyer Volvo 4.3 gs Fuel Pump Question

Yes. Power to the fuel pump relay comes from the start relay through a diode. After it starts, power is supplied to the fuel pump relay from the green wire off the alternator, through another diode to the fuel pump relay.
The pump WILL NOT run with the engine off and the key in the run position.

Have no idea what the purple wire is. It's not OEM.

Here is a link to the Electrical & Ignition manual that has the wiring diagram for your engine.

Thanks Don, I didn't have the belt on the alternator hooked up. Therefore my fuel pump was not getting power while running.

Thanks, Cory
