I have a 97 Kawasaki ZXI 1100. Put new battery in and it started 4 times over the course of a day. The last time I tried to start it, it wouldn't do anything. I've checked the fuses and everything. Has power to all switches but will not start with the start button. Can jump the starter across the solenoid and it will start and run. The kill switch will kill it but won't start with the start button. Can anyone help? Thanks.

You starter is shot, now you should have a 3 wires on your solenoid...red..black(to starter) and a small wire.Take a multimeter to the small wire and then crank it over,if you get 12 volts then your starter is shot and if you get nothin then its your solenoid....try that.MOst places can rebuild those starters.

I would look to make sure all of your wires from the battery to the starter are tight with no breaks, and NO corrosion. It may be that the power wire or ground wire from the starter is not making good contact, but when you used the jumper wire, it gave a good connection. I doubt the starter is bad if it started that easily with the jumper.

I know the starter is not bad. But, I have power to all switches and the start button. When I turn the switch on, the lights always came on and then went off, but not now. It is like there is no power going to the control panel but there is power to the start button. I can't figure out since there is power to all the switches, why the start won't work or the lights in the control panel.

could be bad pin conections clean all the wire plugs,, I am dealing with a similar issue from corrosion on pin conectors myself and it will drive you nuts trying to figure out an electrical issue sepecially if it won't do it all the time. and in the past I have run in to corroded ground wires that look good but have no continuity,, you can check those with a meter.

Found it! Took it to a friend of mine that built the engine in it for me. The connectors in the case where the solenoid and spark box is at had condensation in them. Put electric grease in the plugs and plugged them back in and that the end of the story. Thanks to everyone that helped.
