1997 Johnson 50 spl. I picked this motor up recently. It does not have any tilt lift assist cylinder on it. It's manual lift of 185 lbs all the way. I planned on putting a Panther 135 tilt and trim on it anyway, so the lack of the cylinder didn't concern me when I bought it. I have come to realize that once on the panther unit their isn't anything to keep the motor from flipping up un- restrained if the lower unit strikes an object while moving. Anything to worry about here and if so a Solution to hinder the flip up movement other than installing a OEM tilt and Trim unit and forgetting the panther unit??

What is needed is a trim lock strong enough to keep the motor from coming up in reverse. On a manual tilt motor that should be std. equipment.

If you hit something, you WANT the motor to tilt up. That's why tilt locks are very weak.

Sounds like you don't have a problem.
