Re: 1997 johnson 150 prop number

Your low on the rpm side for this motor. This motor loves the 5800 range. I have a 18.5 skeeter fish n ski that came with a 21 pitch and I was getting 53 at 5400 rpm so I bought a 20 pitch raker stainless and Im getting 58 mph at 5800 rpms when its not bogging down of coarse. Being low on the rpms is lugging it and will cause problems down the road for your motor. Maybe try dropping a pitch. Do you have a jack plate?

The 21 pitch was omc aluminum. You need to get your rpms up to let your motor put out its full horsepower. So Im not sure how much more speed you'll get but if you drop a pitch you'll pick up that extra rpm and maybe a few more mph and save your motor. I would drop a pitch, maybe you know someone who will let ya test a prop first. If so even try a 19 if your boat is real heavy. just get those rpms up near 5800
