I recently purchased this 1997 sunbird coral with a 130 johnson. the carbs and fuel filter were full of oil after sitting up about 1.5 years. I replaced the plugs, and flushed the carbs until oil was cleared out. she fired right up with lots of white smoke that hopefully will go away once I run her real good. with ear muffs on I was not able to get any water flowing. my neighbor suggested that this model may vent water from the exhaust. any help would be appreciated. I dont even know where the water is suppose to exit on this model.

Suggest you obtain a copy of the owners manual.

Should be available from your dealer or directly from Ken Cook Co at www.outboardbooks.com

There should be what some of us call a "pee hole" that will show the water pump is working while you're in the water.

Look for a small rubber line coming from the powerhead going to a fitting on the bottom of the engine cover. If it doesn't have that, look on the housing below the powerhead, between the cavitation plate and the powerhead, that looks kind of like a small vent or exhaust port.

Even if the water exits through the exhaust, there should be a way to tell if your pump is okay so you don't overheat it.

Good luck!

Check where it should be right here

If the motor is an unknown quantity then you need to give the cooling system a service anyway. Replace impeller at a bare minimum and review everything else while you are torn down.
