Just bought the motor, Haven't bought a manual yet. Motor has 123psi on starbor and <br />119 on port. Is that good? I dont't know a whole lot about the OIS system, more familier with the older ones, Does it have a replacable rectifer regulator or will they burn out if you disconnect the battery like the old ones. It looks as if everything is enclosed in one unit. the motor runs reaaly stong, any info would help as what I should look for or need to know. Thanks.

The optical ignition system most definitally requires an OEM manual for service.<br />'97 Ocean Runner is a 60 deg Looper, so yea, it's got alot more punch than a cross-flow.<br />120-125 sounds OK for compression.<br />I can't tell ya much about the reg/rect., but someone here will.<br />It should be a very good powerplant for ya...the loopers are strong engines.

The reg/rec is a water cooled unit similar to those in the 90 degree loopers. It can be replaced as a seperate part. Excellent motors.

Nanderson, I am fairly certain and also was warned a while back that these motors should not be run without a battery load or damage to the charging system (aka rectifier) will occur in a short time period. One evening my brother-in-law decided on his own to switch batteries (Guest switch)while we were headed back to the dock. Instead of turning from 1-both-2 he turned from 1-off-2. While in the off position, the running lights were bright enough to be seen from space and the volt meter pinned over to the right so hard I heard the "clunk". Couldn't be a good thing!
