Just bought this 1997 Honda 90, with low hours, per the seller 100-150, and from the look of the lower unit and in general it's likely true, however, I pulled the plugs and the bottom cylinder spark plug was wet with oil. Motor used up roughly 1quart of 10w30 synthetic in about 10hours use (smokes when started). Cold compression test from top cylinder to bottom shows 200lb,210lb,225lb, and 175lb. Checked it twice with little, if any, variation. Over the past ten years, this engine has sat unused for long periods of time. I'm going to change the oil, again, to a 10w40, change the plugs and thermostat, and adjust the valves. Any ideas, suggestions, or imput on the oil consumption issue will be appreciated. Other than this issue, the motor runs perfect.

A cylinder leakdown test is a much more valuable diagnostic proccedure then a compression test. That should be your next step.

try not using synthetic oil it bypasses a lot of time it it so thin.

That is an inaccurate statement and is irrelevant to the complaint.
An engine with 100-150 hours and in a good state of repair wouldn't have an issue with synthetic or the recommended 10-30.
