Anyone know hown to remove shift rod? spline collar below power head allows rod to move up and down about 1/8 inch, but that is all I can get it to do. Do I need to pull power head? If so, does the oil pan need to be removed in order to access hiden bolts?

if your just trying to get the collar off it will seperate at the shaft ends there probally corroded expecially if used in salt water try removing plastic shroud around exhaust and applying heat to collar and using a slide hammer to remove. but last resort the lower unit has to come off and intermediate housing then the oil tank then under the metal gasket are the "hidden bolts" along with many other bolts wiring and other bolts ontop and the two under the back by the exhaust but remember if you seperate the powerhead when u go back together align the dots on the shift shaft or youll be doing it again

Last one I pulled out was done with a couple pairs of vise grips locked onto the shaft and a couple whacks with a rubber mallet on the vise grips. You shouldn't have to pull the power head.
