1997 Evinrude 90HP Idle too high

With boat in water in Forward gear Idles at 1000 RPM. This 4 Cy engine has orfice type and Idle speed is not adjustable. The thing purrs like a kitten in all speeds and gears. I have a 14X17 prop. Is the prop my problem? High idle makes it difficult to throll and sometimes causes gears to grind when shifting

check the trothle cable it might be to tight before adjusting anything.<br /><br />your idle should not have anything to do with your prop.<br />when and how did this start.<br />was it sitting for a while?<br />and is your motor getting to normal operating temp?<br /><br />reeldutch

Thanks for your reply. My title says it is a 1997 model built in 1996. Model number is E90SLEVA or it could be E90SLEUA. Hard to tell if the 7th digit is a V or a U
