After running about 2 gallons fresh fuel through this motor today (motor has not been in the water for over a year) I was curious about something...

My water pump does not have enough "gusto" to allow a good flow of water using muffs. I used a 35 gallon barrel today and it worked just fine. My question is that I am wanting to run a batch of Seafoam through the system and carbs but will doing this with a flushing barrel bring too much crap into the water intake? I know that it is just going to circulate but I don't want a lot of carbon deposits and who knows what else travelling through the cooling system. Anyone have any advice on this or is the cooling system more forgiving than I am giving it credit for?

Yeah, I don't like using the muffs but would the by-product of the Seafoam coming from the exhaust be harmful to the cooling system at all considering it may recirculate from the tub?

Put a hose in the tub and let it run when you're running the motor flushing the tub.

That's how I have it set up now. To basically refill what the pisser and the splashing expel from the bucket. The first time I ran it, there was quite a bit of fogging oil that came from the exhaust and I had to rinse off the lower unit afterwards from the gunk settling on the motor. I guess the extra grease in the cooling system will help the water move faster, right?... lol

It wont hurt a thing. A tub is how its done. Muffs are for outdrives. Tubs are for outboards.

Please explain, I'm all ears!!!

If thats a pun, its a good one!!! haha.

If serious, for outboards that can be run in a tub, a tub is the best way to go. Muffs tell you little about the H2O pump. I have had them slip off, etc,etc....
