I am about to purchase a 1998 BW RAGE, which of course has the 175 Mercury engine. I would like some input on the kinds of modifications to the engine that would improve the reliability. I've heard about intake water filters but don't know where to purchase them. Would like input about other modifications. I have also read many posts about disconnecting the oil pump and using premix. I understand that there are alarms to warn of oil injection failure. So does the motor get destroyed because the alarms are ignored, not heard above engine noise or the alarm fails some time before the gear fails resulting in no alarm??? There is a ton of good info on this site Thank you. Ron

First thing I'd do with any injected motor is pull the injectors off and have them professionally cleaned.

Leave the motor alone on any mod's and put you money in pump area ..less slip =more mph

Switch your power packs to the outboard power packs. This can be done easily and professionally. Just make sure you can get the right mechanic who takes pride in his work and has been established to do this for you. If you do this, be careful, your boat will shoot out of the water like a rocket and it will increase your top end.
