1997 90HP LOWER UNIT trouble...

I Changed the water pump, while i was replacing the bearring carrier. Water pump went well but as i was sliding in the new carrier i notice three ball bearrings the size of bb's. Does anyone know what these belong to I have looked at the blow out of the parts and all i can see are the elongated bearrings. Also how big of a deal is this?

Thanks so much, I was thinking it came out of something on the drive shaft. Still not sure exactly where those belong. It appears that they go in the pin that is in the end of the prop shaft? Thanks Drew

Yes that is where they go per the link I sent you. that is the cam follower and the pointed end of it rides against the shift cam,which rotates when you select gears. The shift cam is item 18 here:

Thanks alot I was worried that i was going to have to rip the whole lower unit apart. Now to get it all back together. Thanks again, Drew
