The kingpin on my motor is rusted pretty bad. Once I remove the kingpin what type of grease do You recommend I use. it will have to be somewhat saltwater resistant if such a thing exists. I am hoping i can clean it up enough to reuse- That part isn't cheap like me.

If you know of a good machine shop, you could have them make one out of stainless steel. Other wise, buy the factory steel one. It is listed at $95 dollars. You could maybe find one cheaper on the internet though... JMHO!

Thanks for the quick replay. Wow I checked out the price. I thought that thing was at least 300 bucks. Have to do my homework next time. Thanks again

The king pin is hollow steel and is carried in two plastic bushings inside the swivel yoke. If you can easily (not) remove the king pin, you can sand it clean. Then sand the inside of the plastic bushings so they are a slip fit again. Then hand grease the king pin and bushings. Clean the corrosion out of the swivel yoke--top and bottom. Re-assemble and grease with a gun the assembly through the zerk fitting.

It is possible and I did buy a solid high strength aluminum bar from Graingers or McMaster-Carr in the diameter of the original king pin--I think it was 1 1/8 inch. A three foot length was 80 some odd bucks and was good for replacing two king pins. It was slightly oversized so I did need to sand the inside of the plastic bushings a bit more.

Oh thanks guys. I spent today adjusting the motor, seems to run pretty good. I found one of your old messages on grounding out an engine that wont shut down. That came in handy making some adjustment on the engine. After I got the motor running pretty smooth I decided to check out the control box to see why engine would not start or stop from key switch and duh the harness had come unplugged. Seems like I spend more time troubleshooting myself. Only thing left now -said will gnashing my teeth is to pull motor and remove kingpin.Still waiting on a part to repair the foot. Might wait for that to get here and make sure foot works like it should before tackling kingpin. I will also check out grainger, I hate to put a steel tube in for saltwater fishing also want to change tilt tube to stainless steel. I did that on my other motor, never had another steering cable problem.

Anyways thanks guys yall make this so much easier.
Just wish I had found yall three years ago.
