1997 40 HP theromstat removal

Can I remove my thermostat and leave it out? Will it hurt any thing?

You can remove it but the efficiency of the engine might suffer. A two cyle needs to run at the proper temp to burn properly.

ok that's kinda what i thought but wasn't sure. i tore into my motor after it over heated and it did need a water pump but thought there might have been more to it and my thermostat had leaves and gravel in it. i cleaned it all out but if i was to over heat again on the water i know i can take it out and run it to the dock if need be. thanks alot for the reply.

That mtr won't run worth a dam if it doesn't have the thermo in it. Has to be up to operating temp especially at lower speeds.
