Hello everyone,
this is my first post here, purchased this 22' Angler WA from a friend who was the original owner, he overheated the engine last season. I stopped at the boat yard where the boat was stored and had a 30+ minute talk with the very nice mechanic there, who told me cylinder scoring was not bad at all, but it sounded like there could be some bearing damage (may have to cut crank), center section and lower unit are in great shape.
He strongly suggested I pull the powerhead (which went very smoothly BTW) and bring it to a shop. When I strip the block I will post more pictures, so you have more to go on.
Where is a good place to source rebuild "kits", I see some on ebay for under $1,000. I have no idea how much machine shop work on outboards could be, any idea?
The mechanic mentioned he could get me a new Merc block for $3,400, but if I could rebuild this for less with similar reliability I would like to take that route.
Thanks,
John
