I'm having a problem with my 1997, 150hp Johnson Ficht motor. It starts to miss off and on. It will run fine for awhile and then it will start to miss and keep on missing for awhile and then if I slow down or shut it off it usually will stop missing for awhile. This happens at all rpms. Anyone have a possible solution.
Gorman

Just a quick question. When you say Ficht, are you referring to the Direct injection that omc puts on their outboards? I am not an omc man, so I was wondering.

Re: 1997 150hp johnson ficht misses

Well, I am a little confused. Johnson outboards are still all carburated. Evenrude is the one that makes the ficht ram injection, and it is a direct injection. Maybe I am getting my systems mixed up, I'm not for sure. I am not meaning to step on toes, I just hope that somebody didn't lie to you when they sold it to you. I still may be wrong, but that is what I have read. I bring this up, because I was recently a victim of someone selling me something that they said was a 95, when it was a 93. I really wouldn't have cared so much, but when you have to fight with someone about parts it begins to **** you off when you find out you were the one that was wrong. If I am wrong, please clarify the matter. Thanks

When FICHTS first came out they were under the JOHNSON name , anyway I need a little more info , have you had any updates done on it by a dealer? Have you done a comp test ? And most important what are the plugs like? this early engine burned out those platnum plugs in about a 100 hours if you lucky . You'd be amazed how a new set of plugs will change the running of these engines. And if you are going to change the plugs GAP THEM !

mr. tim
The only update that was done was to change the spark plug wires. I have not done a compression check. Also I haven't changed the plugs since last fall. Might be a good place to start. What about switching to regular unleaded gas instead of premium unleaded gas?
Gorman

Use whatever brand of gas you want with at least 87 octane and you"ll be fine .How many hours on the current plugs?

OH I forgot , if you have pinned heads use XC12PEPB CHAMPION plugs and for non-pinned heads use 7712 CHAMPION PLUGS.You can tell if you have pinned heads by looking were the spark plugs are screwed into the head. , pinned heads have a small allen head set screw right next to spark plug non-pinned don't , and use the CHAMPION PLUGS , he gap on both plugs is .030'.

If you don't have pinned heads, this could be the problem. Get 'em pinned.
