Hello, I read several posts about removing the oil mixing system and adding oil in the fuel. Is this a good idea on a 1997 ? Do most of you recommend this?
Thanks!

The Mercury oiling system is a pretty good system if maintained properly. The killer for the oil gear internally is a overheat and not fogging engine for storage. What happens is the "plastic" gear gets soft in a overheat and gear edge warps causing eventually failure of gear, the other is not fogging engine, when laying up in a humid area that light layer of rusts forms on shaft and when put back in service that wears gear and over time it fails. My suggestion, make sure alarm horn and sensors are working and just run it till ya havea problem...

:) Good advice. Seen just as many pre-mix motors explode as oiler motors. (production motors anyway)..................

Re: 1997 150 EFI delete oil pump?

Thanks for the info. I have oil warning signal (intermittent beep) problems and have been told that the overheating will also give this signal until the engine has no water and signal is constant. I don't buy that. In the interest of eliminating oil problems maybe I should delete the pump. I have twin 150's with about a thousand hours on each and I don't believe the previous owner was too good about taking proper care of the engines. However they run great and have 110 lbs. comp. give or take 5lbs. I am pretty sure one engine is overheating. ( low psi on the gauge) I need to do some more diagnosis.
Thanks for the response.

Any over heat will be a constant beep. Has nothing ta do with how much water is where as far as tha type of alarm! Only oil related and water in tha seperator will give an intermittent beep................

Thanks Dukedog, This is the first I've heard of water in separator. I'll check it out. Appreciate the help.
