This motor had poor idling, cutting out at idle occasionally. Comps good and sparks excellent.. Carbs not been serviced for some years. Rebuilding carbs. The idle screws are in the throttle bodies. Noted that the screw settings are all over the place ranging from 2.5 turns out to 7.5 out. Seems very strange to me. The cleaning of the throttle bodies should eliminate any possible restrictions. Cannot find any reference to the start screw setting in the manual I have. Can anyone advise me on this please.
Thanks.

According to my '98 Johnny OEM Service manual, your setting (for a '98 60* V4 J115 model) would be 5-3/4 turns open. I would expect yours to be the same.

When I overhauled the carbs on my '98 60* V6, I was able to leave the needle in place and remove the cover plate to clean it. I therefore did not need to adjust it.

Since my motor ran perfectly, until the carbs started to get dirty, that worked like a charm, and it runs perfectly now the carbs are clean.

Good luck

I have the 97 (EU) manual( 90, 115, 105, 150 and 175hp, 60 degree v looper) and it is 5-3/4 turns.... I also have a 95 manual for the same motors and the setting was different!!!!.... one reason it helps to have the manual for your exact motor.

Thanks guys. You answered my question. If I had the OEM manual for every motor that I was asked to fix I would be sitting on a small fortune. I do have some OEM manuals and they are the best but once in a while I get a motor that I dont have the OEM manual for. That is where the forum comes into its own. My retirement hobby could get quite expensive, I think, without your help.
Again I thank you and the Forum organizers.
