1996 Yamaha 15. Questions for the rebuilders.
I can get a new block for about $250
Pistons are about $40
Crank assembly is $600.
Can the engine be rebuilt without replacing the crank? Do pistons have to be replaced? The engine ran perfect before I broke a bunch of bolts and screwed up the block.
What parts are an absolute must to replace when I dive into this thing?20210606_123525.jpg

If that motor has the pressed together crank, the rods are part of the crank assembly.

if nothing is wrong with the crank rods, and pistons you might get by with reusing them.

what bolts did you break, and can they be drilled and timeserts or helicoils put in and still get your old motor up and running again?

Perform a compression test, if still high keep the current crankcase, a machine shop will be able to remove the broken bolts and if the threads are shot once removed can install timerserts, helicoils, once done install new base and exhaust gaskets and if the cylinder head is removed order a new gasket and torque it well to factory specs...

Thanks guys. The motor is pretty old and well used. A new block is cheap so I may get by with just new rings. Ill look at putting new main bearings on the crank also just to keep the engine going even longer
