On these and a few other motors I have I can not figure out whether there is a gasket between the carburetor and the crankcase. One ran great, did not have a gasket, another runs badly and it does have a gasket. I looked up the parts diagrams for these motors, they do not show a gasket. Not on the carburetor page nor on the intake page which includes the reed valves. Is there supposed to be a gasket here or not? What is the part number, ? Where is it displayed?

The parts diagram shows no gasket, intake or carburetor. Surface of intake has a bit of a rubber like coating but it does not seem as though it would be enough to eliminate the need for a gasket. I have another Yam 15 which did have a gasket but in poor shape.

look in the service manual for the motor to see if they say to use a sealent

No outboard engine that I know use a sealent between rear car body and intake manifold. There are carbs that uses a large round o'ring found sitting on a deep groove placed at rear of the carb body or plain flat cardboard gaskets...
