I bought this used ski about a month ago. It runs real good and real fast. But after sitting for awhile it won't start without manually priming the carbs. Mikuni dual carbs which I just rebuilt. I put new plugs in yesterday. Try to start the machine without manually priming. No start. Pour a little gas down the carbs and it fires and runs no problem. Could this be a pop off pressure issue? I was told that this could be caused by the on/off/reserve switch sucking air. Any ideas and help would be appreciated. There are no leaks in my gas lines and my filter is also brand new. I'd rather fix this issue rather than mask it with a primer kit. If this is a pop off issue can you tell me how to fix it. I did use the 115 spring that came in the rebuild kit. Any help would be great.

bypass the fuel switch go to the reserve side of the tank if it stops having a problem replace the switch or just leave it that way , I bypass all the fuel switches because they are a problem after a few years

Mason, I'll check my Mikuni tuning guide for tips when I can. It's been a few years since I've had to adjust pop-off press.

Does your boat have the factory choke system?
Is it functional?

Are you sure there are no minor air leaks causing a lean condition at idle?

I'll see what I can come up with...

Ok How should I bypass the switch? Which hose should go where? Yes my ski does have the factory choke. Cable operated and it does work. The cable was a little stiff before but I've taken the time to lube it so it moves freely. No I don't think there are any air leaks anywhere. The lines all look new and I've gone over them with a fine tooth comb just to be sure. Now I did notice that these carbs have been taken apart before. it looks as though whoever had it before rebuilt them as a 38 instead of a 44. Some parts to a 38 and some parts to a 44 on the inside. At this point I think that all of the oem gaskets and seal are in the right places now. I appreciate you checking those tuning tips. Let me know. Much appreciated.

One of the BEST things you can do to this ski (IMHO) is to get rid of the choke system and put on a manual primmer (cheep thru aftermarket). Alot of my riding buddies had to do this with Kaw's and Yamaha's especially for the same problems. For under 40 bucks you can elimate this headache, hit the primmer 3 times and go riding.

to by pass the switch go from the reserve fitting of the tank to the fuel pump inlet, block off the regular// on// hose ,leave everything else alone. also try a restrictor in the return line. I use a tiny egg sinker and push it in the line allowing the fuel to run through the center hole.

my experience with yamaha is people never clean or replace the in line gas filters and I would do that immediately.

oh on the pop off issue I learned that it is best to leave the original springs alone I spent more time messing with pop off preasure and decided if the thing was working when I tore it down just leave the springs alone. I wondered why there were so manny springs in the kits well after cutting a bunch of them and never getting them exact I figured they put them in there for nit wits like me, so use the original ones .
