hi, i am looking at purchasing a tohatsu outboard as above. anyone know much about them? reliability etc... thanks

They are generally reliable engines. Service outlets/parts can be a little spotty, particularly here in the US.

cheers. what is the life expectancy of them? this one may have done about 1000 hours...

The oldest one we had in service logged 4200 hours without a powerhead or lower unit failure before it was replaced.

nissan motors are nearly bullet proof. they , at least the slightly older ones, there are minimal parts. very basic. they run like fine hardocore japanese machinery should. i own 3 of them. and would buy a nother in a heartbeat.
