1996 SPX Lagging

I have a 1996 SPX Sea Doo. Last weekend I started it up and ran it at idle speed until it warmed up. I then went to half and full throttle. About 200 yards into the full throttle, the engine bogged down, similar to the effect of sucking something into the impeller area. (Throttle on full, no speed, engine sound as if it is being strained, something holding it back) I stopped, throttled a couple of times to see if anything was stuck and the engine returned to normal idle. Went to full throttle and after about 100 yards the same thing as above. I nursed it back to shore at idle and pulled it out of the water. Checked the impeller area - nothing caught or jammed. Stopped for the day to prevent any permanent damage. Plugs are new - I change them twice a year during the running season. (I dont have to change them, just think it runs better when I do, IE they dont foul etc.)

I have owned since new, all regular maintenence has been kept up. Engine is completely stock. Never a problem until now.

Any ideas on what may be causing the engine to bog down, lose power and speed?

when is the last time you had the carbs rebuilt? if it has not been done in the last couple years it is time to do it, I bet if you let it idle and give it some gas it tries to go but dies down again real quickly.

Yes, as a matter of fact this is exactly the type of performance I was getting. I have never rebuilt the carbruators. I rode it three weeks ago and had no problems whatsoever - would carbs go that quickly?

Re: 1996 SPX Lagging

They have tiny internal filters and once they get clogged to a certain point it starts doing exactly what I described There is a way to not only fix it but to avoid it in the future, ironically I posted on another site the proceedure to solve the problem, unfortunately it was a site full of kids and one of the KIDS ticked me off so I decided to just forget bothering with giving advice to that site, Im 53 and raised 4 kids don't have the patience for rude smart butted kids, so if I find the post on another site that I believe I did also, I will send you a link, this is a common situation with sea doo skies and not a big deal to fix and prevent. when I buy any used sea doo I automatically do this mod first. here is the instructions I posted on a site that doesent have a bunch of juveniles on the site YET<LOL. http://www.pwcweekly.com/forum/index.php?topic=76.0
