Re: 1996 seadoo xp 800 engine trouble

both of you do a compression check...compression should be around 150 on each cylinder if you have a properly calibrated guage...if it isn't calibrated, the important thing is that they compression is within 10psi of each other.

If compression is good...I'm going to guess that your carbs need to be rebuilt and your fuel lines need to be replaced. The original fuel lines made by Tempo were not designed for ethanol, and as a result they break down and gum up the fuel system...one of the symptoms is what both of you are describing...another is blowing your motor if not taken care of properly.

Do a compression check and report back. If you're not comfortable rebuilding them yourself...I do carb rebuilds for those motors...use OEM parts and charge WAYYYYYYYYY less than the stealerships.

there's a lot more that needs to be redone besides cleaning the internal carb filter. The fuel lines, fuel/water seperator, and fuel selection switch should all be replaced in addition to a full carb rebuild, including needles and seats.

Re: 1996 seadoo xp 800 engine trouble

it will do that...until it clogs up again. the problem is the fuel lines on those things deteriorate because of the ethanol gas which clogs up the internal fuel filters. It can cause a lean condition and blow a top end.

It if runs like new, your carbs sound like they don't need a rebuild at this point. Do yourself a big favor, go to an auto parts store, get 1/4 inch fuel line and replace all of the lines yourself and ride it like ya stole it!

I would agree with bigdaddypt. $20-$30 now or $2,000 later........

anytime...it's real easy. take one line off at a time so you don't get confused and get stainless steel screw-on clamps to go on the new line. You'll get many years of worry free riding that way.

OK,,,new to these machines. I have a 96 with the same problem. I just put a remaned engine in, 787, with all new internals. The machine sat for 3 years. WHERE is the fuel filter? I replaced the oil filter, but never saw the fuel filter.

Please start your own thread for issues related to your ski rather than continue one that you found with a similar issue.

With that said, lift up the front hatch and pull out the storage bucket and look underneath. On the top there will be a plastic cup with fuel lines attaching to it. You can unscrew that cup. The filter will be there and can pull off if it doesn't already fall out when you unscrew the bowl.
