the fuel system will need a thorough cleaning and the carbs will probably need rebuilding if it sat that long,,

No starter fluid

No starter fluid

don't use starter fluid on a ski. It's really hard on the engine, and of course, most folks go way overbaord<ha> and end up hurting themselves. A backfire on a ski can blow out the rubber connector hose on the exhaust system and send chunks of rubber at you travelling over 150mph.

The metal screen you see is the flame arrester, can be really hard to get out, but no need to do that either.

Get some fresh gas in the tank if the current fuel fails the sniff test
Mix up some gas and injector oil in a disposable squeeze bottle ( a well washed out dishwasher soap bottle works well )

Pull the plugs, spray a little wd-40 in there, turn the engine a few times ( be sure to ground the plug wires, there should be a set of posts on or near the engine for that prupose) squirt about a teasopoon of gas/oil mix in each plug hole, replace the plugs and wires. crank the engine a few times. You may have to repat a few times to prime the fuel system up.

You may or may not need to rebuild the carbs..after you prime it up...if it starts up normally, put it in the water and try it out, if it bogs badly after a few seconds of running wide open, the carbs will need a rebuild, specially if it has the original gray colored tempo brand fuel lines in it.

good luck!

There are two fuel filters that you should check so you don't take a chance of having a run lean condition & blowing the engine. Ones on the pickup tube in the fuel tank and the other is in the carb. I would replace them since it takes some work to get at them. I would also get the old gas out of the tank and start with fresh fuel.
