Quick history:
Brother got boat - Happy Day (Rush XP with the Mercury SporJet 120)
Brother couldn't get boat to run, asked me (tree mechanic) and another friend to help (real mechanic). Neither of us could find problem until brother discovered engine ground loose. Engine ran but no power. One day suddenly while on the water with his children he says the boat 'took off' and it was like riding the wind.
Winter came. I suspect that it was not winterized properly although the brother did put fuel stablizer in.
New season and we want to go out on the lake. 3 consecutive weekend we have worked on this boat. Carbs had gas flowing out the front. Took carbs apart and cleaned them up and the boat started and ran with no problems. But it would not restart and we got fuel coming out the front of the carbs again.
Today I convinced my brother to get a rebuild kit for the carbs. Boy was that like pulling teeth, no one had them and had to ride my bike like 40 miles to find them. Replaced the needles and wala no more gas coming out the front. But still no start all the time. Finally got it to run and it showed no problems except it smoked like the dickens for awhile. Engine sounded sweet and showed no bogging when I blipped the throttle. Ran good for like 5 minutes.
Well brother has this rule that the motor must start and run 3 times before he will take it back out. Well no start.
So we have an engine that has had 2 sets of new plugs put in, a new battery with the old one tested with a load and it is fine. Boat requires a 1000CCA battery according to the parts desk and with 2 batteries hooked in parallel we have that. Fresh clean gas. New ground cable. Engine cranks strongly but the plugs are fouled with oil. I am thinking the oil 'injection' is too high but I don't see a way to adjust it.
Alright gurus what am I forgetting?
