1996 or 97 Ocean Pro electrical

Otay...my dad has a 96 or 97 ocean pro. He is on his 3RD stator. When the stator blows, the powerpack goes with it. <br /><br />The mechanic always replaces the stator and powerpacks, but I don't think he's ever tried to figure out why the stator blows in the first place. Thoughts?<br /><br />Symptoms are usually the motor runs on half cyls or so, even with SLOW sensors removed. Eventually it doesn't run at all. No cooling problems that we know of, as no lights are going off. <br /><br />What kind of things can cause this? It does sit up quite a bit, like gets used once every year...mostly cause he doesn't trust the engine!

Look to see if there are wing nuts on the battery. IF so, get rid of them and use stainless steel locknuts and make sure the terminals and connections are SHINY clean.<br /><br />A faulty regulator can also "take out" a stator.<br /><br />If he is using factory parts, they come with a 1 year parts and labor warranty, but it sounds like he needs to find a knowledgable technician.<br /><br />By the way, what exactly fails when a stator goes bad? Is the resistance on the charge coils out of spec? Is there melted insulation around the black coils on the stator? Are the copper wires discolored from excessive heat?
