I have been smelling lots of fuel coming from my 96' 115 oceanrunner . Took the lid off and cleaned up all of the excess fuel and started the engine. Did not see any leaks coming from gaskets or hoses. Did notice fuel/ oil mixture coming from a little hole in lower left carburator housing. The hole has a brass shaft in it, that i guess is some kind of swivel housing internally. Do i need a new carburator or can this be fixed?

I ahve a 95 ocean runner 115 and i know the place you are talking about...that is a brass ball... it is a seal only.

there is a passageway that needs a hole at 90*, and apparently it cant be molded like that, so they machine the hole from the side and plug it with the brass ball..

mine have leaked and I have delt with it. instead of taking the carb off I got a can of high evaporation degreaser and sprayed that spot good and after it dried( 2 seconds) I put a dab of instant glue there and then a tiny piece of paper towel to give substance and hold the glue in place.. worked for a year, then I did it again!!

that spot it is leaking from is part of the carb float bowl...which i doubt you could get off without taking the whole carb off..

the worst part is if the port carbs leak like that....you might not even be able to see it, and you cant fix it like the way i described, because there is no access..

if you take the carbs off for a rebuild, thats when you can really address it properly...you can take the brass ball out, clean it good and then reinstall with the correct sealer( which i have no idea what it would be)

as a matter of fact the manual does not address this brass ball at all!!!!!!!!!!!!! so i think OMC thinks its a permanent seal!! ha ha ha.....little do they know!!

The best and safest repair is to replace the float bowl #433000 for about $20.

Some people have had luck using a good epoxy but that is not a recommended fix.

Thanks alot guys, cant believe yall were so fast and helpful , cant afford to lose any gas with prices so dang high. I guess the design guys in 96' didnt have a better idea. While Im fixin stuff, might as well change hoses that look a little deteriated .

It was the sealer that OMC used in '95 and '96 that would sometimes disolve in the chemicals used in modern gasoline. The item that leaks is a brass "BB" that blocks off a cast passageway.
