Rebuild the carbs and look at the reeds while you have them off for any broken ones.

when the float inside the carb gets old its soaks with fuel and doesn't raise. so fuel will keep over filling the carb. an easy way to check if your carbs are malfunctioning is to tilt your engine up while running( while still cooling itself of course) and noticing if excess fuel comes out of the carbs at idle. a bad carb will drip every second or so.

This is a good time to rebuild your carbs. Parts are available from iboats or mercruiser. If you have composite floats, go ahead and change them as well as rebuild the carbs.

Don't forget to adjust them after you get them reinstalled. Start from the beginning and adjust your idle and trigger linkage as well.

You will be surprised how well your boat will run when tuned properly.

thanks for your input. this and other threads seem to confirm the carbs need to be rebuilt.

reed is broken, and they don't make replacements for the the 120hp. you can either buy the boyeson p#244 or find someone who did already and buy their old reeds. i have 14 good reeds to sell along with 16 reed stops;):D i just changed to the boyeson reeds and they run great, motor sounds healthy and peppy now.

fuel is spiting from air intake on upper carb..
Your problem is broken reed petals, To fix this, you must remove both housings that your carb is mounted to, Reeds on this particular engine are square metal flaps, once you have removed the carb mounts, you will see the broken reeds right away, This is quite common on that engine and an easy do it yourself fix.
How to know if you have busted reeds? Mostly your top carb will spit fuel, your engine will run without a load or in neutral, but once put in gear and you hit the throttle, it will bog down and top speed will be about 5 mph.
Hope this helps with 120 hp merc Force engine owners to save them from costly repairs.
