1996 Mercury 9.9 Carb. Problems

I recently decided to get my boat out to go do some striper fishing and found that the motor wouldn't run without the choke on. So I took the carb off and cleaned it. After putting it back on the motor fired right up. But after 2-3 minutes of idling I found that the carb was flooding out and eventually shutting the motor off. Have I incorrectly put something on wrong or is it something else? Does the carb need to be adjusted?

Maybe you've got the float valve upsidedown after cleaning, or it's stuck.

/Bear
