I have a 1996 mercury 225 - 2 stroke that I just got out of the shop after 2 years of not being able to figure out why my 24' center console grady would not get on plane...after 2 mechanics and thousands of dollars it turns out that my prop had been changed without my knowledge and putting the correct prop back on the boat solved the issue...I went to pick up the boat last night and it jumped right out of the box...after about 5 minutes at full throttle my oil warning light came on...I shut the motor down and checked the oil reservior...it was half full. I restarted the motor and the light was off for about a minute then it came back on...I proceeded to repeat the shut down start up and hobble for about 20 minutes...then the light just went off. I got about 1000 yards from my dock and the light came back on again. I hobbled home. I don't think the boat is smoking like it should be under power....my high temp light never came on and I know it works....any suggestions on where to start?

Re: 1996 Mercury 225 EFI 2 stroke oil warning light

This is something my Merc mechanic told me, so just passing it on.
If the oil injection is ever disconnected it takes a bit for the air bubbles to get out. He told me to mix oil manually with the gas for the first tank and by then the bubbles would be gone.
It will smoke a bit extra, but won't hurt anything as apposed to running it without enough oil.

If the oil injection system was not disconnected, then disregard.

Try bleeding the oil tank on engine and check that onboard oil tank is full...
