We have been given different advice on what oil is best for a 1996 Mercury 115 hp 2-stroke 4-cylinder outboard. Can anyone give me advice? We get 2-stroke and 4-stroke recommendations

Why would anyone tell you to use 4 stroke oil in a 2 stroke?? I only use 2 stroke mercury or quicksiver oil in my 96 90 elpto mercury

Any oil that has TCW-III markings is what you need. That may be full synthetic, semi-synthetic, or regular two stroke oil. As long as you see TCW-III on the label you can use it. There is no such thing as "better oil" because the question remains -- better for what?? What someone thinks is better for their application may not and generally is not better for you. If someone is recommending 4-stroke oil for your engine you need to begin listening to someone else.
