First off, I am working on a 1996 Mercury 115ELPTO 4 cylinder 2-stroke engine, serial number 0G405783.

I need to tear my carbs down and clean/rebuild them. In searching for the correct parts, I have run into a few questions that I am uncertain about. I hope that I have them identified correctly and have identified the correct rebuild kits, jets, and floats. I will list what I have and hope that you experts can point out any mistakes that I am about to make.

My carbs are identified with the following numbers:
Top carb
51-1 0436

next down
51-2 0436

next to bottom
51-3 0446

bottom carb
51-4 0446

I assume that these are 51 series carbs, but I have no idea what the 0436 and 0446 numbers mean and if I need to keep them in mind when ordering parts. Maybe someone can tell me what those numbers represent.

According to my research, I need the following parts to do this rebuild:

Carburetor kits:
8236354 | REPAIR KIT-CARB
Mercury, Mercruiser, Force, etc.
Part Numbers : 8236354, 1395-8236354, 13958236354

Floats:
9594 | FLOAT
Mercury, Mercruiser, Force, etc.
Part Numbers : 9594, 1395-9594, 13959594

Jets for 3 upper carbs:
4217 | JET-.062
Mercury, Mercruiser, Force, etc.
Part Numbers : 4217, 1399-4217, 13994217
Notes: (WME-51-1/2/3)

Jet for bottom carb:
4216 | JET-.064
Mercury, Mercruiser, Force, etc.
Part Numbers : 4216, 1399-4216, 13994216
Notes: (WME-51-4)

Does anyone see anything wrong with my thinking? Should the bottom carb have a different jet size that the other three?

Any help or enlightenment that you guys could pass my way would be greatly appreciated. I am confident in my skills and have no doubt that I can do this, but it is my first outboard carb rebuild, so I am trying to be thorough and get an understanding before I order the parts.

Thanks for your help
Brad

One more simple question, Do you guys recommend that I stay with original Mercury carb kits or are the Sierra kits just as good?
