I bought a vortec long block and a blown 1996 Mercruiser LX from a bravo 2 to take all the parts off. Was the 1996 engine a vortec? Will I need a new intake? Thanks

Ayuh,... You'll have to Look at the intake to tell,...
Marine motors sometimes lag behind automotive years...
The Vortec intake is held down by 8 bolts, instead of 12...

96-97 Mercruisers are transition years, Like Bond-o said it could be either, my 97 is a non vortec.
and thats 4 bolts per side 8, total!

Yep, gotta look at the intake manifold as mentioned twice. In 1996 and 1997 Mercruiser used BOTH Vortecs and non-Vortecs. My 1997 5.7LX EFI Gen + was a Vortec. I *think* the "Gen +" is what designates a Vortec. If you go onto Doug Russell's website to their parts catalogue, and look up a 1996 5.7LX (4bbl), the illustrations are most definately NOT of a Vortec engine.
