Hi All back again. my motor has two issues and I have one

There is a small water leak between the powerhead and the center leg

The upper shock mounts just below the powerhead are rusty very rusty and they move in and out a lot

The motor purrs perfectly

The water coming out the pee hole seems to be very hot and it is coming out very fast with good pressure

About a year ago someone here kindly sent me a PDF file of that motor service manual and for some reason I cannot figure how to get past section one. No matter what I do I can only get the first 20 pages of the manual. There must be a trick I forgot or somehow they just vanished from my computer

Thank you carholme for the help so quickly

I just want to lift the powerhead to check the upper rubber mounts and change the gaskets, any thoughts or suggestions on how to proceed?

Bill;

You will find the Power head removal under section 4, page 11. Once the power head is ready to remove, you may have to lever it a bit to free it from the adapter plate seen as item 1 in this link:

Mercury, Mercruiser, Force, etc. - ADAPTOR PLATE/SHIFT SHAFT - 40 HP30 JET

Then you will have access to the upper mounts seen as item 8 in this link:

Mercury, Mercruiser, Force, etc. - DRIVE SHAFT HOUSING ASSEMBLY - 40 HP30 JET

Pages 1-3 of Section 5 of the service manual, show the breakdown of the complete assy which you will be dealing with. The lower mounts can be inspected by removing covers, item 19 and clamp, item 21, seen on page 5A-3. To remove the lower mounts will require removal of the swivel bracket, item 17, page 5A-1.

Just borrowed my neighbors brand new digital thermometer and in a few hours I will run the motor and see what the temp of the water is coming out the pee hole and the exhaust.

Does anyone know blow hot that water should be??
