As the story goes (on this site) the plastic hubs came about as a result of just such on the large engines such as yours. So I guess it's not out of the ordinary. So, if you have a plastic hub, maybe it's how you run your rig. Just shooting from the hip, if you run high rpms for extended periods of time and maybe hight trim angles and the kind of things you would do on a large lake with a bass boat trying to beat the competition to the Honey Hole, that may be the cause. You don't give everything time to cool off.

Could be running rich or lean if you are burning up that many hubs. If its rich what isnt burning up in the cylinder is burning up in the mid and prop. If its lean...well its just plain hot. I know Ive burned up a prop hub and lost my favorite prop at 85 MPH. Lots of bad noises all at once.

Situations like this are why Mercury developed the metal flo torq hubs. Alll the modern Mercury high performance props can use them as well as many aftermarket props .

Is that a picture of your 85 mph "rocket"? Haven't heard about the metal flow torque course I'm not in that loop either.

Ive had that boat 92 MPH on the GPS'ometer. Just gave it to my brother though. Most of it anyway. He can buy his own damned motor. "New" boat is a Allison XB2003. Just came in from the garage . Putting an offshore mid , milled heads, Brucato SVS, intake spacer and some other go fasty goodies on the pro max. Hope to pass 100 with it.

In any case the metal flo torq hub part number is 835258K 1

Good luck. I once saw the video of a boat that flipped over backwards attempting to set some kind of conventional OB speed record. Don't remember the speed, over 100, but the thing thought it was an airplane. Good luck.

100mph is like 50mph if boat is set up correctly, When I ran in the KDBA I had a 16ft Texas tunnel with 500ci BBC that ran 118mph in 1/4 and a 10 year old kid could drive it. You could actually take your hands off the wheel after the boat set and locked and run the last 1/8 mile hands free!!!!

Yep. Took the Allison out yesterday and ran it up into the mid 80's . It was like driving a Cadillac at 40 MPH. At about 70 MPH I could feel it lifting up on the pad and it took almost zero effort to keep it there compared to the old Checkmate. Only had it out for a few minutes as crap weather was rolling in and Ive got the whole winter to add some more setback and make a few motor internal changes to make it so I'm comfortable running it at 7k+ for extended periods but 100 MPH shouldnt be any problem with that boat.Nice boat that Allison.

I'd like to state for the record I'm sorry about hijacking this thread

Checkmates do bat turns too with a surfacing prop over the pad. . Nothing like getting slammed into the side of the boat Thought I broke my arm once. Ive gotten real conservative with turns over 40 MPH. The Allison is MUCH easier to drive on the pad than the checkmate which I suppose you'd expect with a pad twice as wide. Cuts right through chop that would have the checkmate bouncing all over the place. In reality the Allison was just a lucky deal. I knew the guy selling it and he wanted it to go to a good home I suppose.

Havent had the Allison out much yet. Ive got the motor half torn apart right now to change the boyesens over to Carson reeds and the bearings to metal cage, fresh rod bolts and a few other mods to make it happier at higher speeds. Milling the heads, SVS etc.Ive was going to rebuild the whole thing until I pulled the heads off and realized it had been done recently with new vertex's etc. What really interested me was the range though. Couldnt get much more than 40 miles out of the 'mate. The Allison should get 3X that.

Me too. ona last note though. 99% of tha ally "turn" come with a sudden throttle chop for whatever reason with no time ta make adjustments. That is gonna be your main concern. How ya drop tha nose at speed tells tha tell! Gl with it........duke out.

Can't tell, is that a cleaver prop?

Where's the water p/u on that racing LU?

Thats a 30 pitch Spinelli DR3. Not quite a cleaver. More like an ET. Ive got a number of props I want to try on it before I buy a known "good for allison" prop. The DR3 probably isnt the best prop for that setup but I want to install the 14 inch jack plate I have before I rule it out completely. Ive got a DR4 which might be a better fit , a couple of choppers, and a mazco 4 blade to try out once the weather improves a bit and the powerhead is back together.

The sportmaster lower has the pickup holes on the bottom of the cone a few inches from the front.

Check your gear ratio.
