I need to replace the water pump impeller on a '96 Johnson 130. I have the lower unit loose except for the shift rod. How do I disconnect the shift rod so I can drop the lower unit?
Go to the port side of the mtr and look under the lower carb. You'll see the shift rod coming up to a cleavis. Remove the bolt in it and that disconnects the shift rod. Go to shop.evinrude.com and look up your mtr in the diagrams and you'll see it.
I see it. I can access it with a long screwdriver.
This tells me the shift rod will drop with the lower unit (?). Ahhhh.....
