We have recently had the l/u off of our Honda 75 for repair and to replace the impeller. Upon re-installation, we turned the splined shaft to neutral, as well as the (remote) gear selector. After installation, the motor will go through F-N-R, but grinds while going from neutral to either forward or reverse gear. This happens two or three times, then neutral and reverse do not work altogether, and the prop spins in the forward direction regardless of what position the remote gear selector is in. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: 1996 Honda 75 no neutral/reverse

I have a 1996 BF 75 and been there done that.First pull the lower unit back off. Then use a pair of pliers to turn the shift rod untill you can spin the propeller free. There are only three positions and it does not take a lot to move it.Once there make shure that the remote shifter is in neutral, also check that it is in place on the engine, neutral switch is pressed in and locked in place. Then install lower unit.If you did not mess with the other adjustments this should do it.
