I just bought the motor on a boat. I tried to start the engine per the starting instructions and it would not start. I pulled the carb and cleaned it. I tried again and still couldnt get it to start. I put a small amount of the mixed fuel in the carb and it started right up and ran great. It wasnt spitting water so I shut it down after about a minute. I just orderd an impeller off of iboats to fix that problem. Anyways I started it after it had been started and it would start on first pull. After the engine got cold again, the next day, I pulled it and it would not start. I pulled the primer bulb out of the cover and it has a perfect round hole in the center. It appears from the pictures that I have seen on the internet of the primer bulb the hole is supposed to be there. I really just cant figure out why its not priming. Any help would be awsome.

several guys here have used lawn equipment primer bulbs or combinations of bulbs, if I remember right the gamefisher bulbs are hard to come by on some models....I have never seen a primer bulb with a hole in it that belonged in it.

Thanks for the reply. I know what your saying. I have a lawn service and all my small equip has the primer bulbs that are solid. I looked at the part on searsparts online and the primer bulb is avaible but is like $24.00 and it appears to have the same hole as mine. I think it is supposed to seal against the rubber boot that comes to the exterior of the motor that you push to prime the engine. Im wondering if the rubber prime button has dried out and not making a good seal against the primer bulb. The only reason I can see for the hole is to vent the primer so it dont have fuel setting in it all the time. The hose from the primer bulb connects to a brass tube that runs straight down into the fuel bowl. I also thing that when you push the bulb, it pushes pressure into the fuel bowl and forces fuel up the main jet and pushes fuel into the ventura thus giving it a shot of gas to start off of. I dont know, thinking out loud I guess. Im off today and gonna try to figure it out.

I think I've got the same outboard. I pulled my primer bulb out and mine has a little hole in it also. I thought it was kinda werid also. Mine was pretty bad off and I couldn't match one up, so I just ordered a new one. It should be in here shortly, I'll let you know if the replacement has the little hole also.

Your idea of how it works is pretty much what I was thinking. You may try taking the primer bulb off and lightly blow on the fuel line before starting and see if that helps it prime before starting.

Can anyone tell me how to put the recoil spring back into the starter mechanism? It appeasrs you have to wind it up first so the inner spring grows smaller in diameter to allow the outer part of the spring to engage the bottom prong into the starter spring retainer. Is there a knack to doing this as I can't seem to wind it up sufficiently to allow the outer part of the spring to move down? Mine is the 15hp Gamefisher. All spare parts are easily available from Sears Direct web site, pricey though.

i have a 1994 15hp gamefisher and it is so finicky. pump the bulb, choke it, pull it a couple times and it cranks and runs great. shut it off, crank it again and it runs great. shut it off and pull until you are stupid and it won't even stumble. check everything a dozen times and find nothing. 3 days later pull first time and it crannks and runs great. runs flawlessly for 5 minutes. shut it off and pull until you are stupid again for a week and then all of a sudden it cranks and runs great for a minute.. anyone have any ideas? carb rebuilt twice, new fuel lines and bulb, new water pump.. seconds away from becoming an anchor.....
