I recently purchased a pontoon boat with a 1996 40 hp Force motor. I was surprised at the fuel consumption and am curious if others are getting more out of a 6 gal tank than I am. I more or less idle all the time (like I said, it's a pontoon boat) and I can only get about 6 "laps" around my lake which equates to approximately 15 miles or approximately 4-5 hours of usage. So basically I'm getting about 2.5 miles to the gallon or a little less than an hour per gallon (at idle). Just curious if others with the same (or a similar) motor also find it to be a gas "hog" or if something might be up with mine.

I just got rid of a 40 H.P. Evinrude that was a lot older though (1964), and I got a lot less than you are getting on that pig! on 6 gallons, I was getting about 6 miles at cruising speed about 1/2 throttle. That is 1 mile per gallon and I found that was normal!!! OUCH!
