1996 60hp Evinrude looses power and drops various 2 cylinders when put under load. Problem is erratic but usually presents after 15 minutes running OK. (Under warranty service a bolt was finally found in one carbi that appeared to have been dropped during assembly and provided for a frustrating first 18 months of ownership.) Current problem still exists after dyno testing proved negative, carbis cleaned, new plugs, new impeller etc. Is there any way to test a powerpack or isolate electrical fault that is not consistent with 2/3 cylinders? Anyone with similar problems or suggestions please advise.

Ahoy, David. Your powerpack may be failing when hot. Crank her up in the drive on the hose, with the hood off.

Get a hair dryer and heat your coils, one at a time. Then heat the powerpack. If a hot-short is the problem that should cause it to misbehave.

Good luck.
Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Not sure what year , but flywheel was changed, check for loose magnets in flywheel. Check ignition system with peak reading meter, engine running under load. Does alarm system work? A shorted alarm horn will set the power into S.L.O.W. After you do what J.B. suggested.
