Hello all,

I am about to change the jackplate on my boat. In doing so I will need to remove the existing motor/JP from the transom. My question is, where is the lifting point on my motor. There is a small loop at the top of the right cyclinder but looks a little light in the shorts to hold all 375 lbs of motor. I have inspected the motor and this is the only lifting point I could find. Will this hold? Is this the lifting point used to originally mount the motor?

Your assistance is greatly appreciated in advance.

Should be lifting eye cast in block each side.

Make sure you use the eyes on both sides as it will balance out the mtr.

Re: 1996 Evenrude 175 OP lifting point

Apparently there is some type of lifting device that screws onto the main shaft at the top of the engine. Any of you Guru's know of such a device. Is there another way to lift the motor? I can probably figure it out, just thought there may be some trick of the trade that may speed things up a bit.

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you not have the cast in lifting eyes? One should be near the starter.

The screw on lifting device that goes on the top of the c/s was used for Ficht or DI mtrs. Use the lift eyes on the top of the block on each side with a chain hooked to them. A chain with some 3/8" bolts and big washers through the eyes works good.

Thanks,

I appreciate your response.

Should be a good project. Got the new jack plate the other day and can't wait to get in on the boat.

I hope the cast eyes are strong enough to hold the motor.

The lifting eyes were tested.

I've used those lifting eyes anytime I had to remove or install a mtr on a boat.
