I bought this boat last winter on (sigh) eBay, the seller (*a USED CAR SALESMAN NAMED RON H. OUT OF MANHATTAN, KANSAS) lied to my face repeatedly and told me the package was in fine shape. Being winter, you dont test bass boats much.

Fastforward to April, I take the boat in for spring tuneup. Mechanic calls and says, sit down buddy...yer in for bad news. Long story, short version: bad cylinder.

Now...they tell me that you pretty much have to replace the entire powerblock, because of the chrome cylinders, to rebuild this motor...is that correct?

If thats the case, I will just part the motor out. Whats a lower unit worth on one of these? $1000? $1500?

Oh, for the record, the seller claims "he feels bad that I didnt benefit from the bargain I purchased and that while he does feel bad, he doesnt owe me any money" Know anyone in Kansas with a REAL bad temper that would like a friend for life? lol....JUST KIDDING...(well....maybe not)

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Why not just rebuild what you have? Resleeve the bad cylinder, a new piston and away you go!

Just a thought!?!

Just ran my 1996 250 out of oil and destroyed a piston (the oil horn did not sound). The whole job is a piece of cake (about 200 dollars) and when I ordered the parts I noticed that Yamaha offers two oversize pistons. My cylinder cleaned up nicely so I don't need a new bore. So at least for the 96 250 you can bore and use an oversize piston. Good luck.
