Re: 1996 88hp t&t removal

Hey doug,

I have a 73 Rude and just took mine off and rebuilt pistons. Getting it off I thought I would have to remove motor too, there is a stop rod for the engine stow support that was "preventing" it from sliding right off. I just cussed at it alot and then took a break. When I went back to it the entire unit came right off. Took a little pressure, but it came off. I was sure getting back on was going to be next to impossible...2 min later all bolts were tightened. Be sure to double check ur hydraulic lines before reassembly (I am about ten minutes from pulling my entire unit again cause one of the lines is leaking) Good luck!

Doug can you PLEASE help me with my question in the same forum that you have this? It is called "Wiring harness and cables help"...
I am just trying to get some info and you have the same motor as me. You might be able to steer me in the right direction. It has been so hard trying to find out the needed equipment. Thanks!!!

Re: 1996 88hp t&t removal

Dougmm,

I have a 1993 88 SPL and I just took the trim n tilt out to repair it.
I removed the bolts, and the rod/pin. The rod/pin was the hardest for me to remove, mine was kinda frozen in. It took alot of banging on a metal dowel/rod/bar thing to get it out.
Once it was out and nothing holding the tilt n trim, I manually lifted the motor to its fullest height, use the manual release valve to do this.
With the motor at its fullest height, the trim motor will come out twisting it up from the left side as your facing the trim motor. (rear of boat)

Hope this helps,

Trigger

I had to loosen the 4 transom bolts and spread the brackets slightly with a plastic mallet and then it came out. Thanks for all the suggestions,Doug.
