1996 115hp merc marn ?

I have a ? i hope some one will help me with. I just changed the water pump on a 1996 merc/marn 115hp and when i put the lower unit back on now i cannot shift the gears at all ( the shifter moves but the gears do not change) and the prop is stuck in fwd gear no matter what i do. Any and all help would be much appr. Thanks.

Did you have the boat and the LU in the same gear when you installed it?

What is the s/n of your engine and do you have the service manual? If not, see my message to you inNotifications at the top of the page.

It is much easier to synchronize the shift shafts, if both the gearcase and control are in neutral. I would drop the gearcase, turn the shift lever CCW until it clicks into neutral. Now set the control to neutral and reinstall. Do not forget to grease the driveshaft and shiftshaft splines.
