Hi guys,

I am getting ready to purchase my first waverunner. Its a 1995 Yamaha Wave Venture. It has 170 hours on it and is in great overall looking condition. The motor still looks brand new. My questions are what is the typical range of hours you get out of a motor like this? It still has the oil injection system hooked up and working, should i disable it and premix the gas? What about the overall ski, is this a reliable ski or one that is prone to problems? The current owner has taken care of it and says other then preventive maint. has never had to do any work to it. thanks for your help

Re: 1995 Yamaha Wave Venture

The value with a trailer per nada is about 1500 dollars.. the ski is pretty reliable,, the oil system has issues with the nylon oil lines,, pre mix would be safer,, the pumps have issues with the liners swelling over time,, especially if used in salt water.. it's a good starter ski, so it really depends on the compression on the engine, and as for hours there is no real way to know the actual hours,, it all comes down to what you are paying for it,, the other thing to look out for is the drive shaft seal and bearings,, those go bad and sink the ski if they are not replaced once they start leaking. You also want to check for bad motor mounts on older skies since he said he has not really had to do any work on the ski. Also the carbs are way overdue for a rebuild that is very important on those carbs

Jeff,

I checked the compression it was 140 1st cylinder and 150 on the second. Is it a complicated process to remove the oil pump and cap it off?

should be straight forward on that engine,, be sure to plug off the little oil lines so air won't leak in the crank case,

the best is to buy the block off plate and seal it with 1211
