Took it out for the first time since purchasing it and when we went to start it, it just made a click click click noise like the battery was dead. Tried jumping it, would turn over but not fire up. Changed the spark plugs, still the same. We are very new to this, so can anyone tell me what we should replace first? The battery is from last year. It's funny, we bought a 1990 Seadoo also, which I was worried about because of it's age, but it ran fabulous. Who knew?

load test the battery, use a volt meter and see what it reads with no load, then press the start button and see what it reads, if it drops below 11 volts it may be bad or just need a charge,, clean the ground wire where it attaches by the front of the starter,,remove the spark plugs and see if it cranks over easily,, those can drag at the drive shaft seal and bearing,, or drag at the pump, slowing down the starter and preventing it from starting and you must do a compression check on it to be sure that isn't a problem.

what he said, confirm a strong battery, skis like that for easy starts.

since you're new- starting the thing-

fuel on(!). pull the choke lever and keep it pulled out while cranking boat, do not apply throttle. crank engine for ~10 seconds- if it starts, or starts then stumbles and dies, then release choke, try starting with no throttle, or with very small amount of throttle.

are you starting these skis up on the trailer? i always choke and start the skis on the trailer, and let them run for ~15 seconds, them dump them in the water, hit the starter, and they fire right back up.

It was a really dead battery, we charged it up and it took a few minutes, but it finally started up and we let it run for about 5-10 seconds. We'll take it to the lake tomorrow. Thanks guys!
