hi,

i'm looking at buying a 1995 sea ray 195 bowrider. the seller doesn't know how many hours are on the boat but has told me it has been serviced and witnerized every year.

my question is should i have a surveyor, mechanic, or both, look over the boat? it seems to be in pretty good condition from the pictures i got but this is going to be my first boat so i want definitely want someone to look it over.

also, the seller told me that he went to have the boat serviced when he first bought it and that it was accidentally bottom painted 3 years ago. he says he only uses it in fresh water and keeps it in dry storage...would i have to get it bottom painted again? if so how much would that run me?

also, it comes with a double axel Load Rite trailer but doesn't have brakes. will i need something that has brakes for a 20' boat? tow vehicle is an '05 dodge dakota. and he said he's done some work to it lately (changed the bearings on one side and has fairly new rollers). what should i look for when examining the trailer?

lastly, is there anything i haven't mentioned that you guys would recommend i keep an eye out for?

thanks a lot for your help.

Do your homework, get a marine survey done, take a sea trial and review the maintenance and work records. I think the trailer for that boat should have brakes, mine does and it is a smaller boat. Sea Rays are heavy boats. I wouldn't do bearing on one side of a trailer unless I was really sure why it failed. I personally do bearings by the axle so I know there age and that they have been packed with grease on the same interval.
I don't know about the paint.
I really like my '95 180BR Sig Series.
