1995 OMC 5.0 runs rough then dies

New guy here looking for some help.

1995 OMC Cobra 5.0 V8 - FI

Had my boat out today for the first time since the winter & it started up fine but then was running a little rough for the first 3-4 minutes then gradually got worse & then just stalled out completely. Would not start again - got a tow from another boat.

The guy who towed me in thought fuel filter possibly or bad gas. I did fill the tank this past winter & added the proper amount of marine Stabil so I'm hoping that's not what it is as it'd be an awful waste of gas!

Any other suggestions?

Did you replace your fuel filter and check the old filter for water?

Had the same problem with my OMC 4.3. For me I had to have the Carb rebuilt. Hope its bad gas or a filter cuz its alot cheaper.

Didn't replace the fuel filter yet. That's on the agenda today if I can find one in stock. I started it again this morning & it started up just fine. Ran it for a while & then the same thing happened. Just started to "cough" & then died & it won't start again. Well, thanks for the replies so far. I'm off to try & find the fuel filter. I'll let you all know what happens. Thanks!
