1995 OMC 3.0GS manifold restrictor plate orientation

I have read several posts implying there was a time when the restrictor plate between intake/ exhaust manifold and exhaust elbow was marked incorrectly by OEM concerning orientation of the restrictor plate opening. I am ready to install new elbow onto new manifold and want to be certain I have the restrictor plate oriented correctly. The plate and gaskets are OEM. If anyone has knowledge of this issue and can offer some direction it will be greatly appreciated.
